Weekend Getaway Cancun Edition

I recently went to Mexico for a 4-day weekend getaway Cancun Edition.  No, this was not a crazy spring break affair, as you can imagine given the facts that  I’m in my 40’s, but it was for sure a party.

Getting To My Weekend Getaway Cancun Edition

Planning a weekend getaway when you live in Alaska takes planning, and when it comes to a weekend getaway Cancun Edition, planning is an understatement.

That’s so because we are taking that you have to go literally across the entire  North American continent to go from point A to point B

However, with expertise and the universe on your side, you can come up with ideas, itineraries, and prices that make sense, as I did.

On my way to my weekend getaway Cancun edition I stopped in Denver for some retail therapy.  Also, Denver has a direct flight to Cancun. The layover was such that I was able to leave the airport, rent a car, go to the outlets, shop … a lot.. and then go back to the airport to continue my weekend getaway.

I know this might sound like it was exhausting, but it was great.  It not only split the travel time into two similar legs, but it allowed me to replenish my closet with brands that you do not always find in Anchorage.

*** Hero tip *** when you travel always have extra room in your luggage for shopping.

My Luxury Stay

I went to Cancun to participate in an Abraham Hicks Land Cruise.  If you don’t know what Abraham Hicks is, they /she ( I know it is confusing) are the precursors of the law of attraction, and my teachers when it comes to manifesting anything I want, including these types of travel experiences.

During my weekend getaway Cancun Edition, I stayed at the Paradisus Resort.

The Land Cruise was there, and they had closed down the resort for us.

The resort was far from ordinary, and there was luxury everywhere.

The first thing I noticed when checking in was the view out of my balcony.  It was around 8 pm, maybe 9 by the time I got to my room, but the view I got to experience was a million dollar view for sure.

This is what I got to admire every day, at night time, from my balcony during my weekend getaway Cancun edition.

If that wasn’t enough, when I looked to the right I was so pleased I also had a view of the pool.  It seemed just perfect, and I couldn’t wait to jump in the next day.

Vitamin Sea

You probably don’t know this, but one of the reasons I like to travel so much to tropical places is because I seriously miss the sun exposure living in Alaska.

Maybe it’s because I was born in the tropics.

Maybe it’s something to do with my ethnicity and the need to get natural vitamin D, but whatever the reason is I get very cranky when I don’t get enough sun.

To make it sound more appealing and cleverer, I call it vitamin sea.

I was fortunate that while I was enjoying my weekend getaway Cancun Edition I was able to get lots of vitamin sea.  I could argue actually, that I got maybe a little too much.

However, before I got fried in the sun, I was able to enjoy a fantastic beach and an amazing pool at the Paradisus Hotel.

I mean WOW.

Wouldn’t you agree that a weekend getaway Cancun Edition is something everyone should have in the medium to short term travel plans?

What not adding it to your Bucket List?

I can tell you this much, I know even though I’ve been in Cancun already, I’m keeping it in my bucket list because Ben hasn’t been and I have to say that it’s a memorable experience.

When I go back, I’ll also be looking forward to visiting Isla Mujeres, which is just a short boat ride from the Cancun Marina.

Why not add it to your Bucket List?

The Food

The Paradisus Resort had an array of “included” restaurants with your stay, and quite frankly I don’t know if you need to spend the extra money to eat in the more exclusive restaurants, but you can if you want to.

I thought the food in the “included” restaurants was excellent.

I have to admit that since I was only in Cancun for a weekend getaway, I didn’t feel the need to go out and eat at the local places.  For the amount of time I was there, the Paladius Hotel had enough variety to keep me satisfied, but I can see how if I were going to be there for a week I probably would get tired of the same food.

I feel that Cancun is more sophisticated and Refined than Cabo, and the food quality was much better.  I’ll tell you all about our weekend getaway Cabo edition in my stories from Mexico, so make sure to check those out.

Word of Caution

Make sure you use sunblock.  Lots of it.

My skin tone is such that I do get burnt, but I tan afterward.  I tend always to want to get a little burn to make sure I get a tan as a souvenir of my getaway (and yes everyone tells me how bad it’s for my skin).  In this occasion, I not only got a pretty bad sunburn, but I also got super dehydrated.

The sun + the heat + few adults beverage is not the best combination, I guess is the lesson I learned.

I wouldn’t be in the sun or enjoy the heat of Cancun.  Of course, I wouldn’t skip the drinks at the pool, but the one thing that I would do differently for sure is to drink more water, and maybe actually apply sunblock.

In summary

A weekend Getaway in Cancun is a trip that it’s worthy of making it to anyone’s bucket list.  I know the area has had some bad rep for being busy and crazy with college kids, mainly during spring break, but if you choose your accommodation wisely, you definitely shouldn’t have to deal with crowds or craziness.

The Paradisus Hotel was a family oriented location, and I would definitely come back to this same hotel and bring my kids with me someday, but first I must bring Ben so we can have a romantic weekend getaway Cancun edition.

Life is a Getaway.  Enjoy it!
