The perfect ending to our Sydney getaway was taking the Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise with Penfold’s wine pairing. This was a treat to ourselves and our Valentine’s Day celebration a few days later, but it doesn’t have to be for such an occasion, as you deserve to be treated like royalty for no reason at all.
I’ll be covering the highlights or our adventure in this post.
Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise Selection
When we were trying to decide which Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise we should take, we were faced with 27 different options, which means I had to do a lot of research to come up with the best option for us.
Our Sydney getaway was right after Valentine’s day, and so we had decided to postpone our Valentine’s day celebration until we arrived in Sydney. Because of this, I secretly wanted to be extra special for us, since we don’t go out as much when we are at home since we have a plethora of kids, but also because Ben is a fantastic chef.
The selection process for our Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise consisted in narrowing down the options first by the time of year, then by length of the cruise, then by reviews and ratings which left us with the winner cruise: The Sydney Harbour Sky Deck Gold Penfolds Dinner Cruise.
Our selection had 91 reviews with 4.5 stars and it lasted 4 hours, which we knew will allow us to really enjoy this experience without rushing it.
Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise Highlights
This cruise was a luxurious experience that included a six-course degustation dinner complimented by Penfolds Gold Selection of Bin and Vintage wines with each course.
Like this wasn’t enough, our backdrop was the world-famous Sydney Harbour including views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
We booked our Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise using this link, and it included instant confirmation and all entrance fees.
We love steak and so that’s what we had, but there was a vegetarian option available if that applies to you.
The Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise was such a great experience for us, and the personalized treatment started from the moment we arrived at the port, with priority boarding and a welcome cocktail reception.
Notice that you can board the vessel either at Circular Quay or at King’s Wharf. This part wasn’t clear to us until we asked in the morning of the day of. The same cruise picks up from both locations, but you will be a bit more rushed with your cocktail if you board at King’s Wharf, however, that’s the later boarding point and so I guess it all depends what time you want to start your adventure.
Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise menu and wine pairing
The degustation menu consists of six superb courses with accompanying wines by Penfold Gold Selectin as I mentioned before. There is also a full open bar and sophisticated lounge entertainment with live piano music and of course: Million dollar views!
Our menu was tasty and elegant, and here is the detail of what we had for both food and wine pairing:
- Hor devours and a cocktail of your choice
- Fresh and fragrant herb salad paired with Penfolds Koonunga Hill Autumn Riesling
- Smoked Salmon Rosette with Caviar dressing paired with Penfolds Max’s Chardonnay
- Ravioli Pillows with Spinach and ricotta filling paired with Penfolds Max’s Shiraz Cabernet
- Southern Highlands Angus Tenderloin served with sauteed mushrooms and rich jus paired with Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz. This wine was amazing and we were lucky to be able to bring some of it home.
- Malibu and Coconut delight paired with Penfolds Father 10Yo Tawny Port
Our favorite part of the experience
It is hard to pick one part of the Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise and call it our favorite part of the experience because all of it was amazing.
In particular, the views were breathtaking. Here are some more pictures:
The food was amazing and perfectly paired with delicious wines.
The restaurant was rated by us as the Best Restaurant in Sydney in our previous post even though we visit some other amazing restaurants during our Sydney Getaway.
The personalized service was a fine touch of elegance. The waiter was attentive and quick to anticipate our needs.
The live entertainment reminded me of an exclusive big city lounge.
And of course there were some people watching, isn’t that always the case?
The Sydney Harbour Cruise Dinner was one of the most memorable things we did in Sydney, and I will highly recommend you to do it too. We went all out for the most sophisticated and elegant experience, but there were other options within the 27 that will fit your every time frame, taste and budget.
I’ve compiled some other options for you in this link with options from $40 and 30 minutes (for a Sydney Harbour Cocktail Cruise) to a full Sydney Harbour Dinner cruise but without the wine pairings for $116 per person and 3.5 hours.
You can get those options here
Of course, if you want to experience your Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise as we did, this is the one we purchased
The idea is that you can’t go wrong with which one fits with you. Just make sure you don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity and when you are in Sydney make sure you do this.
After all, unless you live in Sydney, how many times will you be able to go back? I know for us is a long shot given how far away we are, but we definitely want to go back to Australia and see other cities and beautiful things that the Down Under continent has to offer.
Hopefully, you enjoy this review, and if you have done this Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise or any other for that matter, leave me a comment below with your experience and your favorite things during your visit to Sydney.
Remember, keep traveling because Life is a Getaway!
