I’m so disappointed about this Waikiki Steakhouse that I need to warn you about it, to save you the sour experience.
Why Am I writing this review?
First of all, I want to make sure you understand that I don’t have any monetary reason to write this negative review and that the only reason I’m writing it anyways is no other than to save all of you from the bad experience I had at this place.
I feel it is bad enough that Ben and I went through this experience, that we want to make sure you are aware of it, and if you still decide to go ahead and have dinner at this place, then you have been warned.
Why the disappointment?
I was so disappointed because this was supposed to be an upscale restaurant, super classy and top of the class when it comes to steakhouses, and getting reservations was crazy too which normally is a sign of popularity. Honestly, I would have never thought we would have such a poor dinning experience.
Before we booked this place we did some research online and we learned that the owner of this restaurant used to be the head waiter at Peter Luger’s which according to many people including my foodie husband (who happens to be an amazing chef also) it’s the best steak he has ever tried.
So not that being the head waiter will give you the culinary skills to duplicate taste and texture of foods, but the fact that they use this piece of information in their website suggests that somehow the steaks should be comparable.
Maybe it was our own fault for making such assumptions, but then you look at the menu and their prices and you can’t help but get excited to be able to dine at such fancy and expensive place.
Worst Waikiki Steakhouse
So, unfortunately, we want to categorize Wolfgang’s Steakhouse by Wolfgang Zwiener as the worst Waikiki Steakhouse, based only on our own tasting experiences.
I feel like we have good experience with trying, tasting, eating at steakhouses not only in Waikiki but also around the country, and this one is by far the worst one of all.
In Waikiki along you can try Hy’s Steakhouse (which is an institution in the island and you should try it for sure) or Ruth Chris which I’m telling you, it won’t disappoint you and I may write a full review about this place next time because it’s that good.
But one thing is for sure, do not waste your money at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse.
From the minute we walked in, to the minute we left, everything was off and or wrong.
When I say everything, I mean everything: the reservation system, the front desk, the service, and of course the food.
I’m not implying the food was uneatable, but for paying the over price tags associated with these dishes, my 10-year-old daughter could have done a much better job.
Let me break it down for you:
Getting a reservation was a nightmare.
We tried to get a reservation the last time we were at Waikiki during the holidays, and we thought we had one, but somehow we ended having a reservation in NJ instead, so when we showed up we had no table and no sympathy for our problem. They simply didn’t care.
Unfortunately, that just made us want to go there more. So this time we made our reservation 3 weeks before our trip, and we were so excited about it. Especially Ben.
I was also proud of myself that we had reservations for dinner on Saturday night at the worst Waikiki Steakhouse. Of course, I didn’t know that at the time.
When we got there, we had to wait for a while until our table was ready… hmmm I was starting to get suspicious, and kept asking myself…. why did I have a reservation if I had to wait 20 minutes for my table?
Would they wait for me if I was 20 minutes late?
The waiter that was assigned to us was having a bad day himself.
He was grumpy, uninterested and borderline rude.
He simply didn’t give a dime that we were about to spend over $250 in dinner.
Maybe it’s me, but if I’m going to spend that kind of money on food alone, I expect an A+ service.
Being the optimist that I am, I decided to try to enjoy the evening, and we proceeded to order few cocktails, which were not bad, but at a $20 per piece my expectations were not met.
Ben likes to order Old Fashions and I ordered a Waikiki Blues. Again, were they bad? not, but for the price…. not really the best drinks I’ve ordered.
Then We order a bottle of wine that we were familiar with, so no screw up there. First of the night!
Now it was time to order food.
We order a buffalo mozzarella and Canadian bacon and we decided to share a porterhouse steak for two and a side of spinach.
I have to say the Canadian bacon was really good, but seriously have you tried a piece of bacon that you didn’t like? Ever? That would be a first for me, and probably for you too.
When it came to the Buffalo Mozzarella salad, the tomatoes tasted blend, no flavor at all. That’s when the disappointed really started to hit hard.
Hawaii has some tasty tomatoes, and I can’t believe that for $18.95 they couldn’t find some good tomatoes.
Finally, the reason we were dining there. The centerpiece of the experience… The Porterhouse Steak for two.
The problem is that the steak was huge but tasteless.
My heart sank. Deeply saddened by this experience, and so was Ben.
I don’t recommend you to go to this restaurant. I truly believe it is the worst Waikiki Steakhouse. Period.
If you have been reading my posts you would know this is only the second bad review I’ve given, most times I just don’t mention them in my website, but when I come across places that charge an arm and a leg, the service is bad and the food is mediocre, I feel I have to say something.
However, I do have a post with the best restaurants in Waikiki and you can find it here. These are amazing places that I can’t wait for you to try!.
Some experiences during your travel will be less than desired, but don’t let that discourage you, because Life is a Getaway so keep traveling!.
